Transload Services Across the USA & Canada
Built around your freight, not the other way around. SpeedUp Trucking delivers total transload services across the USA and Canada, including ocean-to-truck, rail-to-truck, floor-loaded, and cross-dock transloading, with verified carriers and real-time visibility.
The Handoff Is Where Freight Gets Damaged, Delayed, or Lost
Transloading is where a lot of shipments run into trouble. Every time freight moves from a container to a trailer, from rail to road, or from one carrier to another, you’re handing off risk along with the cargo. A rushed dock crew, an unverified carrier, or a facility with no visibility into what’s happening on the floor can turn a routine transfer into a missed appointment window, a damaged pallet, or a customer asking where their order went.
You didn’t get into this business to babysit handoffs.
We built our transload service around one idea: the transfer point should be the most controlled part of the move, not the weakest link. Every load in our network is tracked. Every carrier is checked through multiple platforms before we dispatch them. Whether it’s ocean containers coming off a vessel in Vancouver or rail cars rolling into a Chicago yard, a real coordinator handles the move and answers the phone when you call.
Done right, transloading protects your margins. Done wrong, it eats them.
What Is Transloading, and Why Does It Matter to Your Bottom Line?
Transloading means transferring freight from one mode of transportation to another: ship to rail, rail to truck, or container to trailer. It usually happens at a port, rail ramp, or dedicated cross-dock facility, and it’s the move that lets you combine the cost efficiency of ocean and rail with the flexibility of last-mile trucking.
Done poorly, it adds cost: demurrage fees piling up at the port, per diem charges on containers sitting too long, product damage from careless handling. Done well, it lets you consolidate freight, avoid double-brokering, and get product to shelves or job sites faster than shippers stuck moving everything by a single mode.
Our Transload Services
1. Ocean-to-Truck Transload (Port Drayage & Container Transfer)
We pull containers straight off the vessel or out of the port terminal and transfer cargo into domestic trailers for onward delivery. This is our core specialty, and it’s where most of our carrier network lives: at major gateway ports on both coasts and along the US–Canada corridor, including facilities that support container moves into and out of the Port of Vancouver, Prince Rupert, and the major US West Coast and Gulf ports.
- Container devanning and re-loading into 53′ dry vans
- Chassis coordination and pool chassis management
- Port congestion monitoring to minimize per diem and demurrage exposure
- Same-day and next-day pickup windows where port operations allow
2. Rail-to-Truck Transload
Rail is the most cost-effective way to move freight long distances, but it can’t get to your customer’s dock. We bridge that last mile. Our teams coordinate directly with rail ramps to pull containers as soon as they’re available, transfer the freight, and get it moving to final destination without unnecessary dwell time.
- Rail ramp coordination across major US and Canadian intermodal hubs
- Real-time rail release tracking so freight doesn’t sit
- Cross-dock and floor-load capability for mixed commodity shipments
3. Floor-Loaded Transload
Floor-loaded containers, cargo packed directly into the container without pallets, require hands-on labor and careful planning to unload safely and efficiently. We coordinate labor, equipment, and dock scheduling so floor-loaded freight gets converted to palletized or truck-ready loads without unnecessary handling delays or damage claims.
4. Cross-Dock & Consolidation Services
If you’re combining multiple smaller shipments into a single truckload, or breaking a larger shipment down for multiple destinations, our cross-dock network handles it. We match your freight with the right equipment and routing so you’re not paying for wasted trailer space or unnecessary stops.
5. Cross-Border Transload (USA ↔ Canada)
This is where a lot of transload providers fall short: they can handle the freight transfer, but not the paperwork that goes with a northbound or southbound move. We coordinate the transload and the compliance side: customs documentation, carrier handoffs at the border, and scheduling that accounts for crossing times at high-volume points of entry. Whether your freight is headed from a US port inland to Ontario, or moving from a Canadian rail ramp down into the US Midwest, we manage the full USA–Canada transload lane, not just half of it.
6. Specialty & Regulated Freight Transload
- Hazmat transload: SDS documentation, hazmat-certified handling, and carriers vetted specifically for dangerous goods.
- Tank container transload: 20ft ISO tank handling for liquid and chemical cargo.
- Temperature-controlled transload: Reefer-to-reefer transfers that maintain cold chain integrity from port or rail to final delivery.
- Oversize/overweight transload: Permit coordination and specialized equipment for loads beyond standard capacity.

The Real Difference: We Treat the Transfer Point as the Risk Point
Most brokers treat transloading as a footnote, a box to check between two “real” moves. We treat it as the point in your supply chain with the highest exposure to damage, delay, and cost creep, and we staff and vet it that way.
